Overview
This role is focused on helping teams make better long‑term decisions about how data is structured, shared, and evolved as systems grow. The work sits close to engineering but is intentionally upstream, with an emphasis on preventing downstream issues related to performance, quality, security, and rework. The person in this role will work across multiple initiatives at the same time, helping translate loosely defined needs into clear data designs that teams can implement consistently.
This includes advising on how data should be modeled, identifying where proposed changes may introduce risk, and helping teams align around shared patterns instead of one‑off solutions. Day to day, the work involves reviewing data designs, thinking through tradeoffs, spotting gaps or weaknesses in existing approaches, and helping delivery teams avoid problems before they surface in production. There is a strong collaboration component — this role partners closely with engineers and other architects, and success is measured by smoother delivery, fewer surprises, and cleaner implementations over time.
This is not a heads‑down development role, and it’s not purely governance or documentation. It’s for someone who enjoys thinking in systems, influencing decisions, and balancing practicality with long‑term sustainability.
