Role DescriptionThis School Bus Driver role is based in St Louis, MO and is a key position in ensuring safe, reliable transportation for Valley Park School District students. The School Bus Driver operates district vehicles on assigned routes, including morning and afternoon pickups, and may support transportation for field trips, extracurricular activities, and athletic events. Daily responsibilities include conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, following all traffic and safety regulations, maintaining orderly conduct on the bus, and reporting any incidents or mechanical concerns.
The driver communicates professionally with students, families, and staff, supports timely arrival and departure schedules, and adheres to district policies and state regulations. The role also involves keeping the vehicle clean, documenting mileage and route changes, and participating in required training and safety drills.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements, and a clean driving record.
- Demonstrated commitment to student safety, including knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and safe loading/unloading procedures.
- Ability to manage student behavior in a calm, fair, and respectful manner, fostering a supportive and orderly bus environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, families, school staff, and administrators.
- Ability to follow route schedules, adapt to changing conditions, and complete basic documentation and incident reporting accurately.
- Willingness to pass required background checks, drug and alcohol screenings, and medical examinations in accordance with district and state regulations.
- Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work split shifts aligned to school start and end times, and occasional evenings or weekends for activities.
- Prior experience driving school buses or commercial vehicles is preferred; familiarity with K–12 school environments is beneficial.
