Equipment Operator Journey 1 - $31.62 / Hourly (OT Eligible)
Equipment Operator Journey 2 - $33.44 / Hourly (OT Eligible)

What you will be doing

As an Equipment Operator, you will operate and maintain a variety of equipment to keep Alaska's transportation infrastructure safe and functional year-round. In the winter, you will perform snow and ice control, snow removal, drainage maintenance, traffic control, and emergency response activities. During the summer, you will maintain roads, bridges, signs, drainage systems, guardrails, pavement markings, and other roadway assets. You will also conduct equipment inspections and maintenance, assist with emergency response efforts, participate in safety and technical training, and operate heavy equipment while developing advanced skills in roadway maintenance operations.

Working environment you can expect

This position is located in St. Mary’s, AK. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and other challenging Alaska conditions. Daily duties involve operating heavy equipment, maintaining airport and highway infrastructure, performing airfield inspections, supporting emergency response operations, and ensuring the airport remains safe and operational year-round. The position requires working around aircraft, heavy machinery, and active transportation facilities while adhering to strict safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • Equipment Operator Journey 1:
    Minimum of a Class B Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required at time of hire. Conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess a Class A CDL, provided they obtain Class A within 120 days of hire and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
  • Equipment Operator Journey 2:
    Class A Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required at time of hire. Conditional hire approval can be given only for endorsements; applicant must obtain
    -Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
Drug and Alcohol Policy

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and cannot start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or a designee has confirmed the candidate has passed the required pre‑employment drug test.
