Position title:

Radiological Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. This role coordinates the Department of Human Services’ Emergency Response Plan for Nuclear Power Plants, supports the REP program, and provides emergency preparedness and response support across Minnesota.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the State of Minnesota’s Emergency Response Plan for Nuclear Power Plants in accordance with the Minnesota Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Direct, coordinate and implement the Department’s responsibilities during power‑plant events or federally mandated training, drills and exercises.
  • Provide leadership, consultation, technical assistance and recommendations to enhance local partner capabilities.
  • Coordinate overall DHS plans to support statewide REP program goals and priorities.
  • Cross‑train and act as backup to administer grant budget, ensuring effective use of funds and compliance with applicable rules; coordinate letters of agreement with state and local partners.
Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years’ working experience coordinating and managing emergency response and planning.

  • Thorough knowledge of emergency management principles and practices, including federal and state planning requirements.
  • Experience working in crisis and disaster environments with an emphasis on humanitarian‑based response.
  • Planning experience for crisis and disaster events.
  • Development and delivery of training that produces measurable outcomes.
  • Experience working with voluntary agencies, community‑based organizations and/or varying levels of government for emergency response and planning.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to tow a trailer with a less‑than‑truck and trailer combined weight of 26,000 lb.
  • Operating equipment such as a pickup truck and a vehicle lift.
  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public health, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Master’s degree in emergency management, public health, or related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Initiative and responsibility to implement objectives as necessary.
  • Project management experience.
  • Certification as a Minnesota Emergency Manager or other related certification.
  • Process improvement and team collaboration skills.
  • Use of basic hand tools and some electronic equipment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to provide effective presentations.
  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
Physical Requirements
  • Move, transport, or position equipment weighing up to 50 lb.
