Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for an organization in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage day-to-day financial activities accurately while helping maintain compliance with tax and reporting obligations. The role will contribute to reliable month-end processes, ledger accuracy, and timely preparation of financial records in a fast-paced business environment.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and post journal entries to keep financial records complete, accurate, and up to date.

- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure reporting integrity.

- Support month-end and periodic close activities by organizing account analysis and financial documentation.

- Assist with sales tax reporting by reviewing transactions, compiling data, and helping meet filing deadlines.

- Contribute to corporate tax return preparation through record gathering, reconciliation support, and coordination with internal or external partners.

- Maintain accounting schedules and supporting documents to strengthen audit readiness and internal controls.

- Review financial transactions for proper coding and alignment with company accounting policies.

- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting questions and improve the consistency of financial information.

Requirements - Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.

- Practical knowledge of journal entry preparation and general ledger maintenance.

- Hands-on exposure to sales tax processes and related reporting requirements.

- Familiarity with corporate tax return support and financial documentation.

- Ability to analyze account activity, identify variances, and resolve discrepancies accurately.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

- Proficiency in standard accounting systems and spreadsheet-based financial analysis.
