  • Serve as a payroll consultant and advisor, assisting clients with technical payroll and compliance matters.
  • Respond to and resolve IRS or state payroll tax notices, including direct correspondence with taxing authorities.
  • Handle multi-state payroll tax compliance, including withholding and unemployment taxes, particularly for construction clients or remote work forces crossing state lines.
  • Provide guidance on prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting for construction clients.
  • Advise clients on specialized payroll and tax issues such as:
    • Per diem rules under GSA guidelines for construction and field employees
    • Nonqualified Deferred Compensation (NQDC) taxation and reporting
    • Taxable fringe benefits (Circular 15-B compliance)
  • Support payroll-related due diligence for private equity and M&A engagements, including analysis of wage/hour compliance, employee classification, and benefit structures.
  • Collaborate with CAAS, tax, and advisory staff to provide integrated, client-focused service.
  • Conduct payroll reconciliations, manage year-end filings (W-2, 1099), and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, confidentiality, and responsiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or minimum 5+ years of experience managing complex payrolls.
  • Extensive experience in multi-state payroll tax compliance and reporting.
  • Deep understanding of construction payroll, prevailing wage, and certified payroll reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience managing multiple clients simultaneously in a consulting, accounting, or professional services environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with leading payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Gusto, Quick Books Payroll, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR experience with benefits administration, compliance, or employee relations.
  • Prior experience with payroll due diligence in M&A or private equity transactions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or accounting software integrations.
