Controller Position

We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations and support sound business decisions for our team in St. Paul, Minnesota. This role combines hands-on accounting leadership with oversight of reporting, cash activity, project financial administration, and compliance obligations. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to improve visibility into project and company performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer invoicing and accounts receivable activities, including the preparation and submission of construction-related billing documents.
  • Record incoming payments accurately, maintain current receivable balances, and drive timely follow-up on outstanding collections and retainage amounts.
  • Oversee contract administration for projects, ensuring financial records and supporting documentation remain organized and up to date.
  • Complete monthly sales and use tax reconciliations and submit required filings in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Track daily banking transactions and maintain awareness of cash position to support effective financial control.
  • Review payroll and accounts payable activity, evaluating spending patterns against project budgets to identify variances and concerns.
  • Analyze monthly financial results and develop periodic overhead reporting to support leadership review and planning.
  • Prepare recurring backlog and sales reports using job cost and bid pipeline data, including comparisons to historical performance trends.
  • Perform periodic assessments of completed projects by comparing actual labor and material results against original estimates and budgets.
  • Support administration and evaluation of employee benefit and insurance programs, including business coverage, health plans, and retirement plan oversight.
