This position leads the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) workplace health and safety program.  This role establishes safety practices, evaluates workplace risks, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and agency safety standards to maintain a safe working environment for employees. The position serves as the agency's primary workplace safety subject matter expert and provides guidance to leadership, supervisors, and employees on safety risk mitigation, incident prevention, and regulatory compliance.  

This position also provides technical safety and facility guidance supporting the agency's continuity of operations and emergency preparedness planning to help ensure staff safety and operational readiness during emergency situations. The role works closely with the Equal Opportunity and Access Division (EOAD), Human Resources, Facilities staff, and external partners to address workplace safety issues, including ergonomics, building safety concerns and security-related risks.  

This position supports the agency's workers' compensation program by analyzing injury trends, recommending preventive measures, and partnering with HR to reduce claim frequency, severity, and overall program costs. This position also provides technical safety and facility guidance supporting the agency's continuity of operations and emergency preparedness planning to help ensure staff safety and operational readiness during emergency situations.

* Three (3) years of professional experience in the field of safety and emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

Experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience with federal and state occupational safety and health rules and regulations, ergonomics, techniques of injury prevention, and hazard evaluation;

+ Experience developing and conducting safety training;

+ Experience assessing and consulting on occupational safety and health problems sufficient to develop and implement solutions;
