Summary of Position

The Senior Estimator prepares full estimates on projects with oversight from the Director of Preconstruction/Estimating as needed. This role manages duties associated with estimating database maintenance and technology improvements within the department, provides complete conceptual and final estimates on all delivery methods including design/build, bid, and construction management, and interacts with clients, owners, architects, subcontractors, and material suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as lead estimator on projects and ensure that applicable project deadlines are met.
  • Create detailed and conceptual estimates for all delivery methods.
  • Read and interpret project specifications and plans.
  • Identify criteria and information to be included in bid packages and scopes of work.
  • Lead and perform a complete and accurate quantity takeoff process.
  • Generate RFIs.
  • Subcontractor/supplier bid solicitation and coordination.
  • Lead subcontractor and supplier qualification and price analysis process.
  • Participate in presentations to management and clients.
  • Development of value analysis log.
  • Lead and participate in the subcontractor buyout process.
  • Support duties for the company estimating database, invitation to bid software, subcontractor/supplier database, and historical data capture.
  • Mentor and coach Jr. level estimating and preconstruction staff.
  • Keep abreast of new subcontractors and material suppliers in our marketplace.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develop self-perform estimates for the following scopes of work with approval from Sr. level preconstruction and Field Operations team members:
    • Concrete
    • Selective Demo
    • Rough Carpentry
    • Finish Carpentry
    • Doors and Hardware
    • Specialties
  • Assist with updating self-perform component costs in the estimating database.
  • Understand warehouse equipment, rentals, small tools, services, and associated costs.
Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience participating in preconstruction of commercial and industrial construction projects preferred.
  • Four-year degree in Business, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience driving productive relationships with project partners, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software and project management tools.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to travel overnight per the needs of the business.
Physical Requirements
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance at a level acceptable to the company, including the ability to work holidays, evenings, or weekends as necessary.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Sitting, standing, bending, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires the ability to maneuver around construction sites where temperatures and noise levels can fluctuate, and the ability to see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients.
