Assistant Project Manager - Retail Construction
Job Description
The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager in coordinating and executing retail construction projects for high-end clients, ensuring they are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget while meeting safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
+ Support the Retail Project Manager in coordinating and executing retail projects tailored for high-end clients, ensuring alignment with project scope, safety protocols, quality standards, and budget expectations.
+ Develop a clear understanding of bid and contract documents, including trade contracts, scope drawings, specifications, exhibits, bid pricing, and clarifications, and apply this knowledge to daily project activities.
+ Assist in managing cross-functional teams, including design, production, operations, and site personnel, to ensure seamless project execution and foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creativity.
+ Support the execution of retail projects by ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, brand guidelines, and company safety and quality protocols, while escalating issues promptly when needed.
+ Conduct or assist with regular site inspections to monitor progress, verify compliance with project requirements, and address any issues in a timely and proactive manner.
+ Assist with project profit and loss (P&L) accountability by helping develop strategies and actions that support budget delivery, cost control, and financial performance improvement.
+ Manage and track the flow of information, documents, and drawings between all departments and team members to ensure accurate, timely, and complete communication throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Research and gather all necessary information to prepare Requests for Quote (RFQs) for core materials and services, ensuring clarity and completeness for vendors and subcontractors.
+ Assist with pricing and purchasing of materials, equipment, and subcontracts, ensuring that cost, time, and quality requirements are met in accordance with budgetary and contractual obligations.
+ Help build and maintain strong relationships with high-end clients and stakeholders by understanding their vision and needs, and contributing to tailored solutions that enhance their retail experience.
+ Maintain thorough project documentation, including contract schedules of values and payment requisitions, to support accurate cash flow management and timely receipt of payments.
+ Support project scheduling activities, including setting and adjusting project timelines, managing critical path schedules, and tracking progress against key milestones.
+ Assist in addressing and resolving quality issues and non-compliance with project specifications by coordinating corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.
+ Act as a professional representative of the organization internally and externally, demonstrating alignment with the company's vision and values in daily interactions.
+ Promote and support safety policies and procedures by communicating safety values, participating in safety assessments, and reinforcing a culture where safety is a core priority.
+ In collaboration with leadership, help integrate company values into project performance objectives and contribute to a culture of coaching, mentoring, and continuous improvement.
+ Support change order processes and estimation activities as needed, contributing to accurate forecasting and project controls.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or another construction-related field (Bachelors' preferred); graduate-level candidates are encouraged.
+ Some experience in construction-related projects is preferred, even though specific retail project experience is not required.
+ Foundational knowledge of project management methodologies, software tools, and best practices (novice level).
+ Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings (beginner level).
+ Basic understanding of storefront installation methods and high-end retail environments (novice level).
+ Comprehension of critical path strategies and their application to project scheduling (beginner level).
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, with the aptitude to learn in-house project and construction management software (beginner level).
+ Fundamental understanding of building codes and regulations relevant to construction projects.
+ Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze issues and contribute to practical solutions.
+ High attention to detail in reviewing documents, drawings, and project data.
+ Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
+ Effective communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.
+ Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to established protocols and procedures.
