SummarySupport the overall sales and operational objectives of Signature Mechanical and Palen Kimball by providing accurate estimating and effective project management for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects. This position works closely with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, field technicians, sales, and internal teams to develop competitive estimates, manage project scope, and ensure projects are completed successfully.
Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC & Plumbing Project Manager / Estimator to join our growing team and support an increasing volume of commercial mechanical construction projects throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
This role combines estimating and project management responsibilities for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects, including new construction, remodels, tenant improvements, retrofits, replacements, and design/build work.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial mechanical construction and understands the full project lifecycle—from reviewing plans and developing estimates through contracting, procurement, scheduling, field coordination, and project closeout. Experience in both HVAC and plumbing is preferred, with strong experience in either discipline considered.
Core Responsibilities- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects.
- Review architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and engineering plans, specifications, and project documents.
- Develop scopes of work, takeoffs, material requirements, labor estimates, and project pricing.
- Estimate new construction, remodel, retrofit, replacement, and design/build projects.
- Obtain and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, clarifications, and opportunities during the estimating process.
- Work with sales and leadership to develop pricing strategies and proposals.
- Track and manage multiple estimates and bid opportunities while meeting deadlines.
- Utilize estimating and project management software, including Salesforce and other company-approved systems.
- Manage assigned commercial HVAC and plumbing projects from contract award through completion.
- Review project scope, contracts, plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field technicians, and internal teams.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work.
- Coordinate material procurement, equipment, labor, and subcontractor requirements.
- Conduct project meetings, site visits, and jobsite walkthroughs as needed.
- Monitor project costs, progress, change orders, and overall profitability.
- Identify and manage project changes, additional work, and customer requests.
- Prepare and negotiate change orders and assist with contract administration.
- Provide regular project updates to customers, leadership, and internal teams.
- Support successful project closeout, including final documentation, billing, and customer follow-up.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customers and projects.
- Build strong working relationships with general contractors, mechanical contractors, building owners, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Work closely with sales, estimating, operations, and field teams to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
- Provide technical and estimating support to the sales team.
- Help identify additional work and opportunities within existing projects and customer relationships.
- Communicate project expectations, scope, schedule, and changes clearly and professionally.
