About The 180 Group

The 180 Group is a meeting and event production company that designs and produces meetings, launches, and live experiences for the pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare industries. Our clients trust us with their most important moments, and flawless execution is our standard.

We operate by a principle we call "Be the Duck": calm and composed on the surface, focused and hard-working underneath. The work is both exciting and demanding. The standard is high, but we also know how to enjoy ourselves. The team is exceptional.

The Role

The Technical Producer is a hybrid role. Part producer, part technical director. You own the technical integrity of a show while carrying real producer responsibility for the project around it.

On the technical side, you are the person who reads an AV quote and knows whether it is right. You can look at a gear list and tell us what is missing, what is over-specified, and what is priced wrong. You draw the room in Vectorworks, for general sessions and breakouts, and your plots are accurate enough to build from.

On the producer side, you manage timelines, budgets, vendors, and client communication. You sit in creative development and translate an idea into what it will actually take to build it. You run the technical conversation with AV partners and venues so our producers and clients can stay focused on content and experience.

This is a new position, which means you will help shape it. The technical standard at 180 will be partly yours to set.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based at 180 HQ in Woodbury, MN. Travel is required and can reach 50%, including domestic and international destinations. This role reports to the Team Lead (Producer) and to the Technical Director.

What You Will Do AV Quote and Budget Review
  • Review AV vendor quotes line by line. Validate labor counts, day rates, gear quantities, and rigging assumptions against what the show actually needs.
  • Identify gaps, duplications, and over-specification before a quote reaches a client.
  • Build and manage technical budgets, and track them against the production budget through the life of the project.
  • Support the AV RFP process. Write technical scopes, compare bids apples to apples, and make a clear recommendation.
Gear and Systems Knowledge
  • Identify equipment on sight and on paper across video, audio, lighting, rigging, staging, and playback.
  • Spec appropriate systems for the room, the content, and the budget. Know when a solution is right-sized and when it is not.
  • Keep current on LED, projection, switching, camera, and show control technology, and bring practical recommendations to the team.
  • Serve as the technical translator between AV vendors, venues, and 180 producers.
CAD Drafting in Vectorworks
  • Draft accurate CAD for general sessions and breakouts, including stage plots, sightlines, seating layouts, rigging plots, and screen and LED placement.
  • Build from venue drawings and site survey data, and flag discrepancies between what the venue provides and what is real.
  • Produce clean, client-ready plan views and renderings that support pitches and approvals.
  • Maintain and improve 180’s CAD library, symbols, and drafting standards.
Production and Project Management
  • Own technical timelines and integrate them into the master production schedule. Load-in, rehearsal, show, and strike.
  • Keep  current with all technical tasks, to-dos, and milestones.
  • Manage vendor documentation, including Statements of Work, Independent Contractor Agreements, and COIs.
  • Identify risk early and surface it with a proposed solution.
Client and Vendor Communication
  • Represent 180 in technical conversations with clients, venues, and AV partners.
  • Explain technical decisions in plain language to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead site surveys and produce the documentation that comes out of them.
On-Site Execution
  • Lead or support technical direction on site, from load-in through strike.
  • Supervise contracted technical crew and hold the standard for how the room gets built.
  • Run rehearsals and troubleshoot in real time, and stay composed while doing it.
  • Carry producer responsibility on site as the project requires. Run of show, client management, and problem solving.
Creative
  • Participate in creative development and bring technical feasibility into the room early.
  • Propose approaches that raise production value without raising cost.
What We Are Looking For
  • 5 or more years in live event production, technical direction, or AV project management.
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks. You can draft a general session and a full breakout package without hand-holding.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and challenge AV quotes. You know what gear costs and what labor a show requires.
  • Strong working knowledge of video, audio, lighting, rigging, and staging systems.
  • Producer instincts. You can manage a timeline, a budget, and a client, not…
