The Role

We are partnering with a leading Minnesota-based nonprofit health plan organization that serves members across Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance markets. Known for its member-first approach and commitment to improving community health, our client is seeking a Health Plan Specialist
- Medicaid to join their member services team during a critical, high-volume season.

In this fully remote, telephonic role, you'll be the first point of contact for members navigating complex questions about their benefits, billing, and enrollment. Job Description

The Health Plan Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and assisting members with complex questions about benefits, billing, and enrollment. This is a 100% inbound (telephonic) position, with specialists handling approximately 50-70 calls per day during the peak Open Enrollment season.

Specialists provide end-to-end resolution of all issues by maintaining ownership and retaining all documentation to ensure complete, accurate, and timely outcomes.

Key Accountabilities Include
  • Treat customers with respect and courtesy, always acting with the customer in mind
  • Work efficiently by utilizing online tools and resources
  • Resolve customer issues with a high degree of accuracy and timely follow-up
  • Assist members in complex situations with professionalism and empathy
Shift Requirements

Candidates must be able and willing to work any shift between 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM CST, Monday-Friday (no Saturdays).

Training
  • 4 weeks of virtual, in-class training from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • 2 weeks of on-the-job training (OJT) at regularly scheduled hours
  • Training is conducted in a virtual Teams environment and includes live trainer sessions, interactive modules, breakout sessions, quizzes, and team-building activities
  • Use of camera/video is required throughout all training; candidates must remain visible and engaged
Remote Work Requirements
  • All candidates must have hard-wired internet with the ability to connect via an ethernet cable, along with stable high-speed internet (satellite, hotspot, and Wi-Fi are not permitted)
  • Speed tests are required for all candidate submittals and must meet the client's requirements as outlined in the requisition
  • Candidates must be able to maintain a professional work environment free of distractions from family members, roommates, and/or pets
  • Being visibly on camera is required for all meetings and training
  • Candidates must use all equipment provided, including the headset and two monitors
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of the educational requirement)
  • 2+ years of call center experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer service experience in a health insurance-related setting (highly preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with the ability to use multi-screen workstations and multiple applications simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality service to members
  • Excellent prior attendance history
  • Strong critical-thinking skills, with a keen ability to show empathy, problem-solve, and explain complex situations
  • A desire to advance and grow within an organization
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and support one another in resolving customer issues
  • Positive energy, tone, and attitude with a focus on member experience
