The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a(n) Laboratory Technician for 3M's Corporate Research Process Laboratory, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.
Here, you will make an impact by:
- Maintaining a safe working environment in a research laboratory.
- Working in a technical team to operate film/adhesive extrusion lines and execute experiments
- Preparing and operating extrusion equipment.
- Supporting the development of new extrusion technologies and processes.
- Providing general maintenance, setup, and changeover of equipment.
- Locating defects or problems during the manufacturing process. Making adjustments to correct the problem.
- Maintaining records of run conditions and producing necessary reports.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
- Two (2) years of laboratory environment experience in a private, public, government or military environment
- Two (2) years experience with polymer processing equipment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Associates or Two-Year Technical program certificate in electrical, mechanical or process engineering
- Experience as an operator in an R&D laboratory or pilot facility
- Experience in repairing and maintaining hardware and machinery
- Solid hands-on mechanical skillset with experience running polymer processing equipment (extruders, pumps, film casting, adhesive coating)
- Microsoft Office experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter who takes initiative in their work
- Safety oriented
Work location:
- This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel:
May include up to 5% domestic

The expected compensation range for this position is $67,593 - $82,614, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
