  • Reports to:

    Director of Administration & Program Directors
  • School Year: , Starting early to mid-February and ends on April 4, 2026

General Description:

  • This position has two functions:
    • to coordinate the placement of daily substitutes through the on-call substitute list and to train, support and schedule substitute teachers;
    • serve as the Building Substitute to support and supervise students as necessary.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
  • Substitute Coordination
  • Is the first point of contact for staff absences and coordinating substitutes where it is needed
  • Manage the On-Call Substitute list, emailing list and the Homebase system
  • Work in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager to hire and train substitute teachers
  • Maintain the Sub List spreadsheet for staff absences and coverage and email the list on a daily basis
  • Provide support for substitutes as needed
  • Work closely with the Program Directors to fulfill all substitute needs
  • Building Substitute Teacher, when in the classroom
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Guide to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for all students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-call and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Have a valid Minnesota Short-call Substitute License
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with students individually and in small/large groups with a wide range of skills
  • Have effective communication skills both written and verbally
  • Ability to be flexible to work under constantly changing conditions and in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings, grade levels, and instructional styles
  • Proficient with various word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (Google Suite, etc.)
  • Have excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Have effective relationship building skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with children in a Montessori setting
