OVERVIEW

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of assistant professor, to begin Fall Semester 2026. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and show strong potential for productive research/scholarly activities. The successful candidate will have experience and/or interest in mathematics education and will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses housed in the Department of Mathematics.

Responsibilities will include teaching mathematics content classes for prospective K-12 teachers. The standard teaching load for this position is 3 courses (12 credits) per semester. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to our mathematical community in part by maintaining an active research agenda.

All areas of research will be considered; work with undergraduate students is encouraged and supported. Other duties include advising students and engaging in service activities.

About the Department of Mathematics

The 19-member Department of Mathematics offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and mathematical education and is active in undergraduate research. The department also hosts interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science programs in Actuarial Science and Statistics. The Center for Applied Mathematics is located within the department and supports faculty and student research in mathematics and its applications. The salary range for this position is $68,000-$76,000.

The University of St. Thomas has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in mathematics, mathematics education, or in a closely related field, or alternatively, ABD nearing completion of the Ph.D. will be considered, with the initial appointment to be made at the rank of instructor. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and show strong potential for productive research/scholarly activities.
