Position:
Instructional Para educator

Work Schedule:

Monday thru Friday, 6.25 hours per day with 30 minute unpaid break (6.75 total hours per day)

Pay: $26.38/hour per the para educator labor agreement

Required Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
    • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor's degree, or
    • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment or a passing score on Para educator Online.   • Must possess and display excellent human relations skills when dealing with staff, students, and community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to get along with other people and have patience in dealing with parents and students.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to students staff and parents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate with students, staff and community.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and interpret data related to student performance.
  • Ability to operate a computer and knowledge of multiple software packages.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of certified teacher, provides assistance both to teachers and students in implementing lesson plans. May work closely on an individual basis with students requiring close supervision and special assistance. Provides support, explanation, re-teaching and discipline.
  • Guide and work through lesson plans and projects with individual students or small groups by assisting with assignments correcting tasks, assessing comprehension level, and recording results as established by teacher. Conduct tests and informal quizzes to assess students' mastery of learned materials or appropriate program placement. Assist teacher in assessing and tracking student progress.
  • Explain and interpret class assignments; instruct students in use of learning materials, computers, equipment, and texts.
  • Supervise vocational education students in performing tasks in office, classroom and other sites in building, including instruction and discipline as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate behaviors of students at risk, discuss expectations of appropriate behavior with students based on school and district policy and individual needs of students. Help determine and carry out consequences. Recommends ideas, identifies problems or participate in problem solving discussions at meetings.
  • Assist students in reading books, records results and administers rewards; help students get to class and assist students during meals.
  • Chaperones students during away from school activities.
  • Locates, advises or otherwise assists students in securing materials, books, reference materials or other information needed for class assignments.
  • Performs some clerical functions: maintains office, grades and attendance records; files student papers, update cum folders, copies items needed by staff for meetings and presentations; types instructional sheets, and update computer records.
  • Maintains classroom or facility in clean up, putting away of equipment, cleaning desks and other areas to maintain orderly facility.
  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.
