OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE:

SDIS Summer Intern

LOCATION:

St. Paul Campus

PAY RATE: $16.50/HR

JOB SUMMARY:

The Student Diversity & Inclusion Services (SDIS) Summer Intern position is key to the success of SDIS summer programs and planning for the school year. The SDIS Summer Intern is responsible for serving as a Resident Advisor and peer leader during the planning and execution of the Reaching Excellence in Academics and Leadership (REAL) Program. REAL Program is a 5-week academic summer orientation program from Student Diversity & Inclusion Services that is designed to acquaint incoming first-year students who are first generation or demonstrate high financial need, with campus life and campus resources, and to provide these students with an experience that simulates a college semester before they begin in the Fall.

2026 REAL Program dates are June 21-July 25.

The SDIS Intern(s) will also be responsible for assisting SDIS staff in execution of duties related to summer orientation and registration. This involves representing SDIS at information table during information fair.

Additional duties will include staffing the SDIS office throughout the summer, working on special projects such as research and planning for SDIS'  programs, handling administrative tasks, and contributing to SDIS' social media presence throughout the summer.

This position is from June 7 - July 25.

The SDIS Summer Intern position is offered by-and reports to-the office of Student Diversity and Inclusion Services (SDIS).

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

Interns will move-in on Sunday, June 7th, 2026. Training and development will occur primarily during the week of June 8 - June 18th, 2025.

SDIS Summer Interns will develop their presentation, public speaking, and facilitation skills by fulfilling their job responsibilities.

Interns will work:

20 Hours per week June 8-12 and June 15-18

40 Hours per week June 22-July 25

This position requieres evening and weekend availabilty

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Attend training sessions

* Live on campus and mentor incoming first-year students during the 5-week summer program

* Attend and coordinate daily events and weekly and weekend outings

* Assist in preparation of the REAL Program prior to the students' arrival

* Assist in planning and facilitating weekly meetings

* Lead teambuilding and ice breaker activities

* Represent SDIS during orientation and registration

* Staff SDIS office

* Complete and contribute to special projects such as research and planning for SDIS'  programs

* Contribute to and maintain SDIS social media presence

* Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Preferred cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

* Must live on campus during the REAL Program (June 8 - July 25); evening and weekend shifts are required.

* Must consult with supervisor regarding any outside commitments requiring 10 hours per week or more.

* This includes registering for a summer class.

* Superior communication skills.

* Demonstrated organization & time management skills.

* Ability to be a team member and work independently.

* Experience working with first-generation students, and students demonstrating high financial need.

Preferred qualifications are previous REAL experience, and or SDIS program participation. (Linkages, DEASE, DAB, Qmmunity) and be a returning, undergraduate UST student for Fall semester 2026.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
