Primary Objective

Perform professional classroom teaching under the supervision of a Principal while collaborating in a professional learning community to meet student needs and develop effective biliteracy practices. The teacher will implement dual-language lessons using research-based immersion strategies, including goal-setting, assessment, and scaffolding, to ensure instruction is relevant, consistent with the District curriculum, and accessible to all learners.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Provide instruction in core curriculum areas following a 50/50 Spanish and English model to ensure a successful transition for students as they move from the 80/20 foundational years into a balanced bilingual curriculum.
  • Utilize research-based immersion practices, including content-based instruction and scaffolding, to explicitly facilitate the bridge between Spanish and English, helping students identify linguistic patterns and transfer academic concepts across both languages.
  • Maintain high-impact instruction by consistently utilizing and modeling professional academic Spanish during designated blocks, ensuring students are immersed in a high-quality linguistic environment.
  • Implement district and school goals/objectives using the provided curriculum, instructional resources, and technologies.
  • Evaluate student performance according to district systems, maintain required records, and use data to focus on student achievement.
  • Maintain regular, effective communication (verbally and in writing) with parents, students, and staff in both English and Spanish.
  • As part of instructional planning, occasionally translate and adapt curriculum materials to ensure students have access to high-quality, linguistically appropriate Spanish-language resources.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment within the classroom and school community.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Elementary Education (K-6).
  • Language Proficiency:
Demonstrated ability to use precise academic language and communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
  • Meet the professional development requirements of the MN READ Act. This requires having already completed an MDE-approved professional development program (e.g., LETRS, CORE OL&LA, CAREIALL) or the ability to complete such training independently.
  • Considerable knowledge of core curriculum areas, teaching methods, and researched best practices.
  • Knowledge and skill in inclusive instructional practices, including the ability to provide a balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all learners and ensures equitable access for a diverse student population.
  • Must demonstrate continued professional development through coursework, research, and peer collaboration.
  • Ability to use multiple assessment and evaluation techniques proven effective in dual language education.
  • Working ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology to enhance instruction.
  • Considerable ability to work in a professional learning community (PLC) learning environment with other teachers and support staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching in an elementary immersion program.
  • Prior successful experience in an urban setting working with a diverse student population.
  • Specialized training or certification in bilingual teaching methods, in addition to general elementary licensure.
