About the JobThe University of Minnesota Law Library invites applications from experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals for a newly-created Experiential Learning Librarian position. The Experiential Learning Librarian will play a critical role in serving the Law School community, particularly the faculty and students participating in the Law School’s experiential education courses and practical training programs, which consistently rank amongst the strongest in the nation and recently received an A+ grade from the National Jurist.
The Experiential Learning Librarian will report to the Associate Director for Research Services. Professional librarians are members of the Law Library Faculty and are hired under the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative employee classification system, which may lead to promotion and continued appointment based on successful fulfillment of job responsibilities, scholarship, and professional service.
Visa Language: This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship and does not offer a STEM OPT training program.
Responsibilities- Developing strong professional partnerships with law faculty and students participating in the Law School’s experiential education courses and practical training programs.
- Providing formal and informal instruction.
- Offering research expertise and support.
- Designing customized services, as needed.
- Participating in first‑year legal research instruction.
- Providing reference services on a limited basis.
- Creating research guides tailored to experiential education courses and practical training programs.
- Engaging in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship, legal education, and/or substantive legal subjects.
- Participating in professional service activities.
- Representing the Law Library at the campus, regional, and national levels.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law school
- M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited graduate school
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian, practicing attorney, or paralegal/paraprofessional in a law practice environment
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, the use of current and emerging technologies used in the law practice environment, including legal AI tools
- Demonstrated excellence in analytical as well as written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated evidence of strong instructional and presentation skills
- Demonstrated evidence of strong legal research competency
- Demonstrated ability to contribute actively to the law library profession through both scholarly productivity and participation in professional activities
- Demonstrated strong service philosophy
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian in an academic law library
- Experience developing methods and processes to enhance outreach and marketing of services to faculty or students participating in experiential education courses or practical training programs

Pay Range: $110,000 to $118,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
