High School Special Education Teacher- Service Provider; SY

Hmong College Prep Academy (HCPA) is a Title I Charter School serving students through a school-wide plan focused on at‑risk students. The High School Special Education Teacher – Service Provider is responsible for instructing special education students. This position is exclusive to providing special education services; case management and due process associated with student IEPs are facilitated by another team member.

The teacher fosters a flexible classroom environment, delivers grade‑level content, and adapts instruction based on each student’s reading and math skill level as outlined in their IEP. The teacher motivates students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a solid foundation toward further education.

• Maintain and promote confidentiality per data privacy, Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, FERPA, and HIPAA legislation.
• Provide direct instruction to students receiving special education and assist them with attaining their IEP goals.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to provide small group instruction, adapt general education lessons, assess student work, and implement accommodations.
• Provide job performance feedback to, direct the work of, and support the paraprofessional in the implementation of the students’ IEP goals.
• Organize and distribute special education media and materials for resources in general education classrooms.
• Maintain data to monitor and evaluate student progress and communicate regularly with parents regarding progress of their child.
• Attend and collaborate to prepare for IEP team meetings with necessary team members, including student guardians.
• Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities.
• Develop and implement proactive and positive behavioral interventions based on FBA results.
• Possess knowledge and ability to utilize techniques to maintain a safe environment (e.g., MANDT, CPI, building emergency plan).
• Participate in relevant staff development opportunities, stay current with state rules and regulations governing special education.
• Collaborate with related service providers.
• Possess knowledge of technology strategies/equipment and provide strategy information to general education teachers.
• Collaborate with outside agencies providing services for students and families.
• Communicate effectively and positively with staff, students, parents, and administration.
• Attend ongoing professional development opportunities related to special education.
• Provide instruction in core curriculum areas, using instructional resources and technologies.
• Support Minnesota Graduation and Common Core Standards; implement goals of the District and school.
• Evaluate student performance, promote achievement, maintain required records, and report to principal.
• Perform classroom management duties, enforce rules, and apply appropriate disciplinary action.
• Provide differentiated instructional methods to ensure mastery of content.
• Use data such as screening, diagnostics, progress monitoring, and daily work samples to adjust instruction.
• Promote a welcoming, respectful, friendly, and academically challenging learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and lesson plans via Schoology and/or Power School.
• Maintain current online class resources via Schoology.
• Connect with families via phone calls, emails, conferences, and school events.
• Foster a social environment to develop trust, respect, friendships, and self‑discovery.
• Participate in professional development meetings and provide student work when requested.
• Implement new learning following professional development.
• Work on new learning based on self‑assessment and input from teacher leaders and the director of teaching and learning.
• Utilize student achievement data to address strengths and weaknesses and guide instruction.
• Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth.
• Supervise student activities, which may include:
  • Bus duty – assist with walking students to the bus at the end of the day.
  • Breakfast and/or lunch duty – assist with monitoring based on a rotational schedule.
