Position: 2026-27 English Second Language Teacher Pool

Overview

Saint Paul Public Schools is currently seeking ESL Teachers for the 2026 - 2027 school year.

The Human Resource Department will review your qualifications and may contact you for an interview. Candidates who are interviewed and selected for the candidate pool may be considered for vacancies throughout the district as they occur. Schools that have vacancies utilize the pool to conduct school level interviews and make hiring decisions.

Candidates selected for the pool may remain in the pool for a minimum of one year. If you are licensed in multiple subject areas, you should indicate the areas for which you wish to be considered.

The pool is intended to recruit new teachers. Current tenured teachers in St. Paul who wish to be considered for vacancies should apply for positions through the District's interview and selection process.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A valid teaching license in English Second Language (K-12), issued by PELSB.

Preferred Qualification

  • Successful K-12 teaching experience in an urban environment.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with multicultural, gender and disability-fair interdisciplinary curricula.
  • Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles as well as teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities.
  • Ability to work productively with persons from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to integrate EL Strategies and Best Practices with other subject matters in the core curriculum.
  • Ability to incorporate high order thinking skills in all subject areas.
  • Ability and willingness to provide leadership in curriculum planning, integration and program development.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, community and administration.

RESPONSIBILTIES

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Teach English as a second language through reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
  • Work cooperatively with team members including other ELL staff and mainstream teachers to provide a coordinated instructional program.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods for serving students in a school with a flexible schedule and multiple collaborations.
  • Support the State of Minnesota Graduation Standards and content area packages to promote curriculum in the school.
  • Assist parents in understanding the education program/system offered by the district and the progress of their students.
  • Communicate, develop and maintain strong relationships with other staff, parents, community in explaining the purpose and effectiveness of ELL services.
  • Work effectively with students, staff, community members and parents from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Seek community input to develop a curriculum that reflects the diversity of students.
  • Assist in the identification of students in the site who are qualify for EL services and develop a plan for service delivery
  • Participate and coordinate, if needed, in training on effective ELL strategies.
  • Assist ELL director in the delivery and implementation of ELL programs.
  • Assist the ELL director in the collection and maintenance of necessary records/information.
  • Provide leadership and demonstrate willingness to seek and provide professional growth and development in the area of ESL.
  • Attend district meetings and workshops.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge about the linguistic and cultural differences which may affect ELL students and their parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with ELL students and their parents.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to function in a team teaching role.
  • Ability to develop and/or adapt curriculum to be suitable for ELL students.
  • Sensitivity to the diversity within ELL learners.

Work Schedule, Pay, And Benefits

This is a 10-month position working 40 hours per week.

Pay range for this position is: $58,584 - $111,399

Maximum hiring step = Step Twenty (20)
