Overview
Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) is hiring a full‑time Teaching Assistant 2 – Special Education for the Focus Beyond (18‑Adult) program in St. Paul, MN. The position is 10 months, 35 hours per week, with a pay range of $21.63 to $28.48 per hour for TA2. Employees may be eligible for medical, dental, vision and pension benefits and accrue sick and vacation time.
Responsibilities- Assist in implementing Individualized Educational Plans (IEP), 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and sensory plans.
- Support inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms and environments.
- Record data on IEP objectives and BIP progress for monitoring and adjustment.
- Teach functional skills such as feeding, dressing, toileting and other self‑help activities.
- Assist teachers with communication systems, therapy, and discipline across the school day.
- Be mobile and move through classrooms, the school, bus, and field‑trip sites to meet student needs.
- Complete third‑party billing daily.
- Provide follow‑up instruction on Positive Behavioral Interventions and implement de‑escalation strategies.
- Apply Non‑violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) techniques when necessary.
- Assist with bus safety duties, including helping students board and disembark the bus and enforcing behavior intervention plans.
- AA, AS, AAS degree or higher, or
- Two years of post‑secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) applicable toward a bachelor’s degree, or
- Passing score on the Para Pro or Para educator Assessment plus a high‑school diploma or GED.
- Basic reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Ability to converse with students and staff as required and in accordance with student IEPs.
- Basic computer skills; typing, copying, and use of iPads.
- Commitment to equity and to supporting all students to achieve equitable outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop positive relationships with students and staff.
- Sense of punctuality; must arrive on time daily.
- Ability to lift more than 40 pounds and perform other physical tasks such as sitting, walking, climbing, crouching, kneeling, pushing, talking, and hearing.
- Special Education Orientation.
- Non‑violent Crisis Intervention and bus safety training.
- Basic first aid, CPR, and bus safety policies within 30 days of assignment, with repeat training as required.
Eligible for medical, dental, vision, pension, sick leave, and vacation time.
