Position Begins: August 2026
Status: Part-time, Exempt
Department: Middle School
Salary: Stipend of $15,000- $24,000 based on level of experience and education

Responsibilities include:

  • Availability (usually) between 12 and 1 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Instruct beginning percussionist students, a beginner section and an intermediate section
  • Assist with beginning and end-of-year organizational needs
  • Prepare students for two concerts per year, winter and spring, including help with pre-concert warm-up, set-up, and chaperoning
  • Track student progress and be able to write narrative comments on student performance and communicate with families as needed

Candidates should bring experience teaching and engaging middle school students in instrumental music. Strong candidates will have experience teaching beginning instrumentalists and have demonstrated experience working with adolescents, understanding their social-emotional and academic development.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in music or a related field is required. We seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for music and a track record leveraging this passion into effective practices that encourage students to think creatively, engage with ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity. As importantly, we seek candidates who are committed to developing and practicing cultural competence in their teaching and are able to operate effectively in diverse environments while also interacting successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds.

In addition, candidates should be able to:

  • Create developmentally appropriate curricula;
  • Establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment for students;
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians;
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families.
