OVERVIEW

Job Title:

St. Thomas Activities and Recreation (STAR) Intern - Programming and Event Planning

Location:

St. Paul

Pay Rate: $16.50/hour

Hours:

This position begins on August 24, 2026. STAR interns will work about 10 hours/week through May 17, 2027 (with the exception of J-term). Interns will work additional hours during Welcome Days; interns may work additional hours during Homecoming and the first two weeks of May.

OVERVIEW OF STAR (ST. THOMAS ACTIVITIES AND RECREATION)

As a student programming board at the University of St. Thomas, STAR is committed to providing opportunities for students to interact and develop relationships with other students outside of their time in the classroom. STAR is allocated a portion of the student activity fee and uses that money to provide a variety of engaging events for students such as live music, movies, bingo, DIY activities, STAR Excursions (off-campus trips throughout the Twin Cities), recreation activities, and more.

STAR also provides social and engagement opportunities for each class cohort as students navigate various stages of life as a college student.

As a programming board on campus, we are committed to planning and executing events where everyone feels they are welcome and safe. We are devoted to creating an engaging and inclusive environment for all students to develop relationships with others.

JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Work as part of a collaborative team to successfully plan, promote, implement, and evaluate creative events and engagement opportunities for undergraduate students mas

* The specific programming positions include:

* Weekend Programming: includes a variety of on-campus and off-campus events on the weekend (may include afternoon, evening, and/or late night events)

* Excursions: trips to off-campus locations around the greater Twin Cities

* Recreation: on-campus and off-campus recreational programming such as canoeing, snowshoeing, hiking, spike ball, volleyball, etc.

* Live Music:
Thursday music series featuring live musicians (on the Quad or at the Loft)

* Out of State student engagement: intentional programming and support for out of state students

* Transfer student engagement: intentional programming and support for transfer students

* Class Cohort engagement: intentional programming and support for first-year, second-year, and upper-division students (juniors and seniors)

* Work approximately 10 hours/week, including office hours and hosting STAR events

* Attend weekly STAR meetings on Tuesdays from 12pm-1pm and attend regular check-in meetings with Assistant Director of Campus Life (supervisor of STAR)

* Maintain timely communication with other STAR Interns and keep event info up to date on various platforms

* Work cooperatively with STAR Marketing/Social Media Interns to promote events and contribute to STAR social media

* Complete Tommie Link submissions and post-event reviews for each event

* Responsibly manage a budget in coordination with the VP/Finance Intern and Assistant Director of Campus Life

* Communicate with off-campus vendors and/or on-campus departments, including but not limited to Tommie Central, ITS, Dining Services, Parking Services, and Facilities

* Support other campus-wide programming initiatives such as Welcome Days, Homecoming, and Tommie Fest

* Staff events and support other STAR events/programs as needed

* Abide by all University policies and procedures

* Complete other duties as assigned

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

* Attend STAR Fall Training on August (TBD)

* Attend all required STAR meetings (every Tuesday from 12pm-1pm), trainings, and scheduled retreats

REQUIRED DATES

* Fall Training: TBD

* Welcome Days:
August 31 - September 8, 2026 (Labor Day Weekend)

* Homecoming Weekend:
September 21-26, 2026

* Tommie Fest:
May 14, 2027

QUALIFICATIONS

* Candidate must be a full-time, undergraduate student mas

* Candidate must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
