Position: General Education Paraprofessional (Kindergarten)

Community of Peace Academy is an urban public charter school located on the East Side of Saint Paul, Minnesota serving approximately 800 students in grades PreK to 12. Community of Peace Academy fosters academic excellence and character development through the education of the whole person - mind, body and will. Driven by peace, relationships and academic excellence, CPA strives to create an educated, empowered and ethical community, at school and within the broader society.

We are seeking an Elementary General Education Paraprofessional to join our Kindergarten team.

Paraprofessionals work 7.5 hours per day when school is in session, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The qualified applicant will possess a strong ability to develop positive rapport with young learners of diverse backgrounds, to maintain clear and consistent expectations, to support learning activities and student behavior with skill and enthusiasm, and to communicate effectively and professionally with team members. Experience working with young children is preferred.

Purpose of Role

To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing a quality instructional program to continuously improve student achievement and character development.

Responsibilities Include
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by the teacher.
  • Participates in prescribed instructional activities with students.
  • Provides for the supervision of students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, common areas, and buses, as well as at off-site events such as field trips.
  • Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as breakfast and snack time management and support with class transitions.
  • Assists the teacher in preparing materials and equipment for direct instructional activity, including locating, copying, collating, distributing and/or grouping materials to support instructional activities planned by the teacher.
  • Other duties as requested by the Principal in support of students and/or the school program.
