Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) is hiring a Teaching Assistant 2 – Inclusion for Washington Tech High School for the 2026‑2027 school year.
Minimum Qualifications- AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree
- Two years of post‑secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution applicable toward a bachelor’s degree
- Passing score on the Para Pro or Para educator Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to converse with students and staff as necessary and/or in accordance with student IEPs
- Basic computer and iPad skills; typing and copying skills; duplicating may be required for some positions
- Racially conscious and committed to supporting all students to achieve equitable outcomes
- Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff
- Sensitivity to the needs of others
- Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding
- Punctuality: must arrive on time to work every day
- Assist in implementing student IEPs, 504 plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and sensory plans
- Support inclusion of students with disabilities in general‑education classrooms and environments
- Record data on student IEP objectives and BIPs for monitoring and adjustment
- Assist students with functional skills such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and other self‑help activities; maintain toileting and meal areas and equipment
- Assist teachers in working with individual students using communication systems, therapy, and discipline across the school day and in all environments
- Be mobile and move around classrooms and the school to anticipate and meet the varied needs of students
- Complete third‑party billing daily
- Provide follow‑up instruction on Positive Behavioral Interventions and implement de‑escalation strategies to avoid power struggles
- Be trained in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) for de‑escalation and physical restraint techniques; use NVCI techniques only when necessary to ensure safety
- Assist in supporting students on field trips
- Physically able to lift more than 40 pounds when applicable
- Able to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear
- TA2s must complete Special Education Orientation training
- Must be trained in and maintain NVCI, bus safety training, and CPR as required
- Within 30 days of bus assignment, all TAs must complete basic first aid, CPR, and bus safety policy training; the district will provide this training
This is a 10‑month position working 35 hours per week.
Pay ranges:
TA1: $20.19 – $25.47
TA2: $21.63 – $28.48
Maximum hiring step is step four.
