Paraprofessional
The Paraprofessional is responsible for supporting Nova Classical's students and teachers with dedication, enthusiasm, adaptability, kindness, passion, and energy. Much of the work of a Paraprofessional consists of direct and indirect service to individuals identified with Paraprofessional support needs in the Individual Education Program (IEP) plan process. The Paraprofessional is employed at-will and operates as a professional within the guidelines established by Nova Classical Academy.
In cooperation with Nova Classical staff and volunteers, the Paraprofessional works to fulfill the school's mission in the following areas of responsibility:
- Provide behavior and academic support for students as directed by teacher/case manager related to IEP goals, objectives, and behavioral plans
- Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g. lunch, recess, field trips, and other activities), including escorting and assisting students to and from class(es)
- Adapt instructional materials, equipment, and/or strategies as directed to accomplish the instructional objectives and meet student needs
- Reinforce instructional material(s), working with students on assignments, providing supplemental tutoring, guided practice, and other instructionally-relevant activities as directed by teacher/case manager
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as indicated in the student's IEP or other formal supports as needed throughout the academic day
- Collaborate and provide academic and behavior data regarding, but not limited to, student progress, observations, needs, issues, behaviors
- Participate and/or provide input for student-related meetings as requested
- Foster a love of learning and passion for knowledge
- Encourage and engage students in their individual education path
- Attendance at required training, meetings, and maintenance of district-required certification(s)
- Adherence to Nova policies, procedures, and the principles of classical education
- Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications and skills include:
- Associate's degree; two years of study at a higher education institution (at least 60 semester credits);
Voluntary Paraprofessional Credential in accordance with Minnesota Rule ; or, a passing score of 460 or higher on the Para Pro Exam - One (1) or more years' experience working with students in one-on-one, small group, and/or classroom setting
- Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and/or First Aid/CPR/AED certification(s) and/or willingness to obtain
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and other information as required by FERPA
- Aptitude for work with students at various grade and development levels
- Committed to professional and technical development through attendance at development activities, scheduled meetings, and relevant training
The primary role of the Paraprofessional is to enhance the learning environment for students by providing effective, personalized attention; engaging in appropriate instructional and behavioral support; and, modeling intellectual and principled living by demonstrating character and intellectual virtues in accordance with Nova Classical Academy's classical education tradition.
Wage hiring range: $21.00-$30.00/hour
Reporting hours are generally between 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with a 30 min lunch.
