Position: 2026-27 Tchr - Special Education - RiverEast Elem/Secondary

GENERAL INFORMATION

Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) is looking to hire a full-time TCHR - Special Education for our River East Elementary/Secondary in St. Paul, MN. We are aiming to fill this role in 2-4 weeks. Employees could be eligible for Medical/Dental/Vision/Pension and accrue sick and vacation time.

POSITION SUMMARY

Perform professional classroom teaching and related instructional work with special education students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A valid Special Education teaching license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education for one of the following areas:
    Academic and Behavior Strategist, Autism, Emotional Behavior Disorders, Specific Learning Disabilities or Developmental Disabilities. Must be highly qualified for core subject area(s) taught.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the specific special education category for which the teacher is licensed.
  • Knowledge of special education teaching philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the special education curriculum for the areas the teacher is responsible for instructing.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities within the special education student population.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and due process compliance.
  • Knowledge of multicultural, gender, and disability fair curriculum concepts.
  • Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies.
  • Strong skills in classroom presentation and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including working effectively with students, parents, district staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school goals and objectives.
  • Ability to modify classroom assignments to address varying student needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher achievement.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work in one of several special education licensure areas; essential functions may vary but generally include instruction in core curriculum and specialty areas and the use of instructional resources and technologies.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods for providing instruction to special education students.
  • Maintain an instructional environment suitable for special education students, ensuring equipment and materials are modified and adapted as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other special education staff to evaluate student needs and develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with state, federal, and district requirements.
  • Maintain student records in compliance with due process requirements.
  • Support Minnesota Graduation Standards and implement district and school goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate student performance and progress toward IEP goals, reporting to parents, principal, and special education administration as required.
  • Maintain communication with parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Perform classroom management duties, enforce conduct rules, and take appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Provide indirect services as required for the special education category in which employed.
PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE

This is a 10-month position working 40 hours per week.

Pay range: $59,756-$113,627.

Maximum hiring step:
Step Twenty (20).
