The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program herine University invites applications for an Adjunct Lab Instructor and Level I Fieldwork Educator position.
Adjunct Lab Instructors and Level I Fieldwork Educators will teach and evaluate students in a face‑to‑face lab setting to support the curricular content students are learning online. High‑need locations include Houston, TX;
Dallas, TX;
San Jose, CA; and Fairfax, VA. Additional locations include San Antonio, TX;
St. Paul, MN; and Redlands, CA.
Lab instructors will lead 4 lab experiences in a 16‑week semester across 3 semesters. Each lab experience is 5 hours of instruction, including set‑up and clean‑up time. Labs are held on Sunday afternoons. Detailed lab manuals and faculty consultation will support ongoing instruction. Before each lab, a collaboration meeting will be held with the Course Manager. After each lab, instructors complete a post‑survey to communicate strengths and weaknesses and debrief with the Course Instructor.
Face‑to‑face lab instructors will collaborate with, accept direction, and be supervised by, the didactic course instructors who primarily teach the associated online course(s).
Responsibilities- Report to the Coordinator of OTA Online Programs.
- Provide occasional substitute coverage on short notice.
- Contribute to teaching, evaluating, and revising course content and learning experiences for the face‑to‑face labs to promote student learning.
- Maintain consistent and ongoing communication and coordination with the online didactic course instructor to ensure labs support course content.
- Maintain site and equipment/materials to assure appropriate amount and condition conducive to an effective learning experience.
- Provide excellence in teaching with a diverse student population.
- In coordination with the didactic course instructor, provide excellence in lab‑related advising.
- Use learner‑centered strategies.
- Adhere to defined grading procedures and standards in accordance with the grading policies of the University.
- Establish positive relationships with students to promote their success.
- Model professional attitudes and behaviors.
- Provide prompt, quality feedback and advising to students.
- Refer students to support services as appropriate.
- Participate in appropriate faculty development activities.
- Participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings and supervision meetings virtually or face‑to‑face.
- Contribute to a positive educational environment for the students and lab site.
Lab Instructors and Level I Fieldwork Educators are employed on a per‑semester basis, usually for no more than twelve credits per academic year. Service as an adjunct does not count toward promotion and tenure. Adjunct instructors on appointment are expected to meet the clinical, academic, and professional responsibilities specified in their contracts and consistent with appointment status.
CompensationLabs: $515 per lab
Fieldwork 1 (virtual): $1500
Fieldwork 1 (in person): $1750
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree
- Current and unencumbered OTA/OT licensure in state of residence
- NBCOT certification
