Mitchell Hamline School of Law - a leader in pedagogical innovation dedicated to expanding access to high-quality legal education - seeks applicants for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in lawyering skills and experiential education. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027.

We welcome applications from candidates at all career stages and particularly encourage experienced teachers and scholars, including candidates who currently hold tenure at another institution or whose records may support appointment with tenure under Mitchell Hamline's standards. We seek candidates prepared to contribute to teaching, scholarship, faculty governance, curricular leadership, and the strategic development of the law school.

We are especially interested in candidates prepared to teach courses in one or more areas such as negotiation, problem-solving, advocacy, litigation skills, or other related practice-oriented subjects. We also seek candidates who are available and enthusiastic about teaching across multiple modalities: in-person classes, synchronous online classes, and in our innovative blended learning program, which is the first and largest program of its kind in the country.

The successful candidate will teach skills and experiential courses, contribute to the continued development of the law school's practice-oriented curriculum, engage in scholarship consistent with the expectations of a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment, and participate in faculty governance and service. Depending on the candidate's expertise and the law school's curricular needs, the successful candidate may also teach doctrinal courses.

Skills faculty at Mitchell Hamline are fully integrated into the faculty and the intellectual life of the law school. This position carries a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment, with rank and tenure status depending on qualifications and experience.

Mitchell Hamline was an early leader in clinical and experiential legal education. The school recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of its nationally ranked clinical program. Mitchell Hamline continues to break new ground by offering a robust clinic and externship program for distance-based students in the school's blended learning program. Supplementing this strong clinical program is a range of simulation courses in advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving, which build on and expand the school's historic strengths in trial advocacy and dispute resolution.

Mitchell Hamline also established and continues to participate in the innovative Minnesota Justice Foundation, which coordinates pro bono opportunities for law students across all three Minnesota law schools.

Mitchell Hamline's nationally recognized Dispute Resolution Institute offers a broad, practice-oriented curriculum in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, conflict theory, advocacy, and problem-solving. The Institute brings together students, faculty, senior fellows, and practitioners through coursework, the Certificate in Conflict Resolution Theory and Practice, clinics and externships, negotiation and mediation competitions, intensive January and summer courses, study-abroad programs, and scholarly and applied-practice opportunities.

The Institute also advances innovation in skills teaching through DRI Press and the Laboratory for the Advancement of Dispute Resolution Skills Teaching, which develops and shares resources for dispute resolution and skills educators. Candidates with relevant expertise will have opportunities to contribute to the Institute and to Mitchell Hamline's broader leadership in lawyering skills, experiential education, and professional formation.
