About the Job

This role provides instruction and advising related to course participation and student learning objectives to students enrolled in the Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs. The individual in this role also engages in efforts to fulfill the mission of the School of Social Work by developing teaching materials, exams, and assignments. The individual must have the capacity to demonstrate ethical social work practice to students.

The majority of instruction is delivered in person, and the role requires use of Canvas, the learning management system, to communicate with students and deliver supplementary instruction. The individual is expected to learn and use educational technology as needed, collaborate with faculty, and follow school and university policies.

Appointments are traditionally semester‑by‑semester and contingent on enrollment targets. The position is a part‑time, temporary, non‑tenured Academic Professional & Administrative teaching specialist or lecturer posted as a pool of instructors. The role may be performed on‑campus or remotely when approved. All employees must follow public health and safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Teaching (90%)

  • Attend class meetings and deliver course content
  • Evaluate student performance and submit grading
  • Respond to student inquiries and meet with students

Course Preparation (10%)

  • Meet with appropriate faculty and gather information as needed
  • Develop course content and syllabus
  • Prepare course materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • MSW degree from a CSWE‑accredited institution
  • Currently licensed to practice social work in the state of Minnesota
  • At least 2 years post‑MSW direct experience
  • Knowledge of the course content area
  • Training/teaching experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in written work
  • Must be able to attend assigned class time, schedule office hours, and meet with School of Social Work personnel as necessary for the preparation and delivery of the course
  • Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and commitment to support the university’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Positive student evaluations from previously taught courses
  • Successful completion of graduate coursework beyond the master's level
