Senior Process Mechanical Engineer - Water​/Wastewater Treatment

Overview

Brown and Caldwell is currently seeking a self‑motivated water and wastewater treatment engineer specializing in process mechanical design to join our team. You will work in a non‑hierarchical, collaborative, and supportive environment that allows flexible schedules and the opportunity to mentor junior engineers.

Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, and technical reports for municipal water and wastewater projects. Manage design tasks as a process mechanical task lead on small to midsize projects, support teams with subject‑matter experts, and mentor junior and entry‑level engineers. Perform occasional site visits, equipment evaluation, process testing, construction inspection, and other fieldwork.

• Execute engineering work on water and environmental projects including wastewater treatment, water treatment, advanced treatment, and pumping and conveyance systems.
• Prepare designs, drawings, specifications, P&IDs, calculations, technical reports, and equipment selection.
• Lead design tasks with assistance from BC's subject‑matter experts.
• Perform process mechanical facility design lead role depending on experience.
• Coordinate with drafters, designers and other disciplines to complete construction documents.
• Mentor junior and entry‑level engineers.
• Prepare and write technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables.
• Assist or lead studies or alternatives analyses.
• Perform office services during construction: submittal reviews, RFI responses, and construction‑related office work.
• Check performance and conformity with design drawings and specifications through field inspection, equipment start‑up, and process testing during construction.
• Conduct occasional field activities such as site investigations, data collection, analysis, and documentation; may require occasional travel.

• B.S. degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering; M.S. degree preferred.
• P.E. certification/registration in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil in good standing, or ability to obtain in the near future.
• Minimum 5 years of similar experience; 6 to 10 years of increasing responsibility preferred.
• Experience designing water and wastewater projects and preparing construction documents.
• Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Task design lead experience required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Mathcad, and writing equipment and piping specifications.
• Experience with AFT Arrow, AFT Fathom, Project Wise Explorer preferred.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $106,000 - $145,000 based on geographic location and may be adjusted in the future.
