Responsibilities
- Control the flow of water into and throughout the treatment processes, from the incoming conduits through rapid mix, lime softening and flocculation, settling, re‑carbonation, filtration and disinfection.
- Monitor and adjust the appropriate application of treatment chemicals during the process.
- Track and adjust flow rates as needed.
- Perform appropriate chemical analyses and monitor chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, and temperature levels.
- Monitor performance of plant machinery and make minor maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Evaluate water treatment control parameters to track plant operations and make necessary adjustments.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Must obtain a Class D Water Operators Certificate from the Minnesota Department of Health within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
AND must meet ONE of the following requirements:
- Two years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I or equivalent experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment, pertaining to water treatment, water pumping, and lime recovery operations.
- Completion of a post‑secondary water or wastewater treatment program as specified by the department.
- Two years of post‑secondary education which must include courses in mathematics or chemistry.
