Operations Manager
SEH is seeking an Electric Utilities Group Leader to build, lead, and scale the electric utilities business across the Midwest.
OpportunityAs the Electric Utilities Group Leader, you will be responsible for defining the vision, strategy, and service expansion roadmap, growing revenue, establishing engineering capabilities across distribution, substation, and transmission services, building and leading a high‑performing team, and integrating with SEH’s broader practice.
Key Responsibilities- Build the business: develop and execute a 3‑year growth plan, identify and prioritize new service lines (distribution engineering, substation engineering and planning, transmission engineering, and additional utility services), and establish a clear roadmap for capability expansion.
- Drive revenue growth: lead or support business development efforts, leverage existing relationships or build new ones, and position SEH as a trusted partner to utilities.
- Establish technical capabilities: build or expand internal expertise in distribution engineering, substation engineering, design, and planning, and transmission engineering, ensuring high‑quality delivery and technical credibility.
- Build and lead a team: recruit, develop, and lead a scalable team structure, create clarity around roles, expectations, and performance, and foster a culture of accountability and ownership.
- Integrate within SEH: collaborate with the Mechanical/Electrical practice and broader teams, align with SEH’s operational model, and translate strategy into measurable execution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience in electric utilities (distribution and/or substation preferred) or experience leading or scaling multidisciplinary utility engineering teams.
- Familiarity with PLS‑CADD, CYME, ETAP, and physical layout standards (IEEE, NESC, RUS).
- Background in consulting engineering or utility operations/engineering.
- Direct experience working with municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, and investor‑owned utilities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, formal or informal.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience.
- Strong verbal communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $125,000 and $175,000 based on skill set and experience.
