Job Summary:

Mechanical Engineers at Forj Medical apply standard operating procedures and a strong working knowledge of mechanical engineering best practices, standards, and technologies to design, develop, test, and support medical device systems. They collaborate cross-functionally to bring products from concept through development and into production.

Mechanical Engineer II are skilled contributors with experience in mechanical design, detailing, prototyping, design for manufacturability, production processes, and testing necessary to support Class II and Class III medical devices. They work under general supervision in a team environment and contribute to projects of moderate complexity, often requiring creativity, sound engineering judgment, and problem-solving skills.

Mechanical Engineers II may be assigned substantial responsibilities on major projects and contribute to multiple phases of the product development lifecycle.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and evaluate electromechanical medical devices with applications in instrumentation, fluid management, motion control, pneumatics, and power transmission
  • Collaborate with human factors engineers, industrial designers, usability experts, and external partners to develop innovative, clinically relevant products
  • Design plastic, metal, and machined enclosures in compliance with applicable international standards and regulatory certification requirements
  • Research, develop, design, and evaluate electromechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, and equipment; assist with supplier selection and evaluation
  • Participate in design reviews, technical analyses, project definition, and cost estimating activities
  • Apply statistical techniques to support manufacturability, reliability, and process capability assessments
  • Utilize hazard analysis, DFMEA, and other risk management tools to support product safety and regulatory compliance
  • Define and perform feasibility, evaluation, and verification testing
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external engineering support personnel
  • Interface with manufacturing and suppliers to define assembly processes and support design for manufacturability
  • Design, build, and validate test and manufacturing fixtures
  • Provide sustaining and consulting engineering support to manufacturing
  • Analyze, review, and evaluate design alternatives
  • Prepare, review, and maintain design documentation, drawings, and test procedures
  • Assist with requirements definition, analysis, and allocation
  • Support test execution and documentation activities
  • Provide mentorship and support to less experienced engineers as appropriate
  • Develop task estimates to support project planning efforts
  • Support continuous improvement and engineering process initiatives
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3-6 years of experience with a BS degree or 0-3 years with an MS degree
  • Experience with mechanical device development across design and production phases
  • Ability to solve medium-complexity mechanical problems efficiently
  • Experience transitioning designs from concept through production
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Medical device experience preferred but not required

The salary range for this position is outlined below under "Job Details" and is dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable employment laws.
