The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Laboratory Technologist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
* Executing hands‑on laboratory testing, from sample preparation through data analysis, to support product, process, and manufacturing activities.
* Managing multiple testing projects simultaneously by prioritizing tasks, coordinating schedules, and meeting project timelines with minimal supervision.
* Working closely with engineers, scientists, and technicians to support development, quality, and technical service efforts.
* Developing and implementing new test methods, fixtures, and protocols as customer and program requirements evolve.
* Documenting experimental work, test results, and observations in technical notebooks, electronic systems, and reports.
* Troubleshooting laboratory equipment and test methods, recommending improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
* Following laboratory safety, health, and environmental procedures while maintaining a clean, organized work area.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
* High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
* Three (3) years of combined experience in laboratory, manufacturing, or testing in a private, public, educational, government or military environment.
* Three (3) years of combined experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
* Associates/Two-Year Technical degree or higher from an accredited university
* Experience working with testing equipment
* Ability to run and manipulate test software packages or Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
* Experience with ISO, Automotive (IATF), or Aerospace (AS) quality compliance standards
* Experience working with a diverse team including external partners
* Ability to communicate regularly and effectively on test results and observations
* Familiarity with 3M testing systems & Industry standards governing materials durability and performance
* Detail oriented
* Hands on attitude
* Strong oral and written communication skills

This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel:
May include up to 5% domestic

The expected compensation range for this position is $81,983 - $100,202, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
