Overview
The City of Saint Paul Regional Water Services is hiring a Civil Engineer III to join our Project Engineering team. Candidates hired into this role will be involved in a wide range of projects that support the supply, treatment, storage, and distribution of drinking water throughout the utility system. The position will play an important role in advancing the utility’s capital improvement program, optimizing treatment and distribution infrastructure, and implementing advanced asset management practices.
Responsibilities- Perform full-performance professional engineering in the design, plans, specifications, operation, construction and cost estimates of Saint Paul Regional Water Services projects.
- Participate with higher-level engineers in the planning of water utility improvements.
- Act as a chief inspector on large and complex projects.
- Prepare and administer contracts and reports.
- Gather required information for budget development.
- Represent the department at public meetings.
This position is based out of the SPRWS Administration Building located at 1900 Rice Street in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The role typically follows a standard 8‑hour workday schedule with flexibility in start and end times to support work‑life balance and operational needs. Employees in this position may work remotely up to two days per week. While much of the work is office‑based, the position also includes opportunities for field work, site visits, coordination with operations and maintenance staff, and involvement in active construction projects throughout the SPRWS service area.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or acceptable related degree) and at least four (4) years of professional experience in civil engineering, including a minimum of two (2) years as a Civil Engineer II‑SPRWS or equivalent.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota. No substitution for education.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License, or an equivalent out‑of‑state driver’s license.
- Related disciplines may include Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other engineering fields with relevant experience in water utility infrastructure, treatment processes, municipal systems, or public works projects. Candidates with interdisciplinary experience supporting the planning, design, operation, or construction of utility infrastructure are encouraged to apply.
