Mechanical Engineer - Medical Device Development

Design innovative medical technologies that improve lives. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of next-generation medical devices from concept through commercialization. This is a highly visible role that partners with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to bring innovative products to market while ensuring compliance, reliability, and performance.

What You'll Do

* Lead mechanical design and product development efforts from early concept through design transfer and commercialization.

* Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, GD&T, tolerance analyses, and design documentation using Solid Works.

* Select materials and manufacturing processes including injection molding, machining, extrusion, and additive manufacturing.

* Collaborate with electrical, software, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to develop integrated product solutions.

* Plan and execute verification and validation activities, including performance, reliability, safety, and biocompatibility testing.

* Drive risk management activities, including FMEA and fault tree analysis.

* Support manufacturing scale-up, supplier qualification, process development, and ongoing product improvements.

* Manage external vendors and development partners to meet project objectives, timelines, and quality requirements.

* Troubleshoot technical challenges and provide engineering leadership throughout the product lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

* 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including 3+ years in medical device development.

* Strong proficiency with Solid Works and 3D CAD design.

* Experience designing products from concept through commercialization.

* Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles, prototyping, and manufacturing processes.

* Experience working within regulated environments, including FDA, ISO, and IEC standards.

* Strong problem-solving, communication, and project leadership skills.

* Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and laboratory evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with Class II or Class III medical devices.

* Expertise in design verification and validation testing.

* Experience with EN60601 safety testing and regulatory compliance.

* Strong background in risk management tools such as FMEA and fault tree analysis.

* Experience supporting supplier qualification, manufacturing transfer, and sustaining engineering activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
