Job Description

Join CDM Smith’s Twin Cities team to advance your career in municipal water and wastewater engineering. Collaborate with industry-leading experts on large, cutting-edge projects that make an impact both locally and across the nation. Own the direction of your career, with strong mentorship and a variety of growth opportunities in our Twin Cities office. Make an impact by:

  • Working with large Minnesota-regional and national clients to solve the most interesting engineering challenges in the water/wastewater industry.
  • Designing pipeline assessment, rehabilitation, and replacement projects for potable water and wastewater systems.
  • Providing engineering support during design and construction for major regional water treatment projects.
  • Leading design tasks by engaging directly with stakeholders throughout capital project design and construction phases.
  • Participating in project management tasks such as defining scope, managing budgets, and project coordination.
  • Meeting with existing and prospective clients to support our sales team and facilitate pursuit of current and upcoming project opportunities.
  • Enhancing technical expertise through collaboration with leading professionals within the organization.
  • Benefiting from technical development opportunities including involvement in industry-leading projects, participation in research and development initiatives, and engagement in conferences.
  • Providing mentorship to junior staff through structured guidance, work assignments, and technical reviews.
  • Receiving technical mentorship to support career growth.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in water and/or wastewater analysis and design.
  • Experience presenting technical concepts to municipal clients through written reports and presentations.
  • Basic understanding of the design process from conceptual design through construction phase engineering.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles for municipal projects and preparation of design documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
