Transmission Planning Engineer – Expansion Planning Team
.
As a Transmission Planning Engineer on our Expansion Planning team, you will collaborate with MISO members and industry stakeholders to develop transmission solutions that become part of the MISO Transmission Expansion Plan (MTEP). You will perform a variety of planning studies and reliability assessments—steady‑state, transient, and voltage stability analysis—as well as project reviews, compliance assessments, and technical support for a variety of planning initiatives.
- Develop transmission solutions for the MTEP in collaboration with MISO members and stakeholders.
- Conduct steady‑state, transient, and voltage stability analyses to support reliable system planning.
- Review and assess projects for compliance with NERC standards such as TPL‑001‑4/5 and other planning requirements.
- Provide technical support across planning initiatives and multiple departments.
- Build strong partnerships with MISO members and internal teams during the MTEP planning cycle.
- Take ownership of key NERC compliance responsibilities.
- Continue developing technical expertise while contributing to projects that shape the future of the North American electric grid.
- Improve planning processes and mentor teammates as needed.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
Preferred experience:
- Transmission planning, expansion planning, or bulk electric system studies.
- Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or Independent System Operator (ISO) operations or planning.
- Power system analysis software and transmission planning studies.
- Base salary range: $71,000–$96,000 USD annually (transparent with state/local pay legislation).
