Role

The Electrical Construction Designer is a full-time, on-site role located in St Paul, MN. This role is responsible for developing electrical construction design drawings and specifications for industrial and commercial projects, including power distribution, lighting, and technology systems. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project plans, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and field teams, and ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.

The Electrical Construction Designer will perform load calculations, prepare material takeoffs, support prefabrication planning, and assist with troubleshooting design-related issues during construction. The role also involves updating drawings based on field feedback, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement of design practices and standards.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Electrical Engineering and Electricity, with the ability to apply principles to industrial and commercial building systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in Electrical Design, including preparing construction drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of Power Distribution and Power Systems, including load calculations, panel schedules, and coordination with utility requirements.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC) and safe design practices.
  • Proficiency with CAD or BIM design tools (such as AutoCAD or Revit) and basic office productivity software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial electrical construction design within a contractor environment is preferred.
