The impact you'll make in this role:
As a Senior Converting Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Applying your expertise of liners, premasks, lamination and converting methods to inform NPI development efforts in multiple ways:
- Selection of liners and premasks,
- Inform process requirements (both upstream and downstream of converting),
- Inform product requirements and risks (e.g., ability to laminate and convert materials while meeting customer requirements for performance, precision, optical quality and cleanliness),
- Preparation of product development and customer samples.
- Understanding of industry methods and best practices for DEPP material converting.
Your skills and expertise:
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- High school diploma
- 5 years or more of converting process experience in a private, public, government or military environment
- Hands on machine operation experience
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Associate or Bachelors degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
- Knowledge of precision, multi axis servo driven systems:
- Synchronization (e.g., for precision part length and multi axis registration).
- Tension setting and control (e.g. to control precision, curl and other material properties).
- Knowledge of web handling, rotary converting equipment and the die industry.
- Adequate 2D drafting skills to produce die drawings.
- Real world optical film and adhesive manufacturing experience ideally in the consumer electronics industry
- Experience with converting to precise tolerances (+/- 0.050 mm to +/- 0.100 mm)
- Knowledge of laminating and slitting technology and control handles.
- Knowledge of laser converting and corona treatment.
- Knowledge of flat press converting and rotary converting
Work location:
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week in Maplewood, MN
Travel:
May include up to 10% domestic
