The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As an Application Engineering Specialist will have a primary focus providing technical expertise, training and application development for vehicle AOEM's. Acting as a liaison between 3M and our OEM customers, this position will be dependent on creating solid working relationships in order enhance 3M's position as a supplier for aftermarket solutions in the repair of their vehicles. Here you will make an impact by:
- Maintain technical relationships with global Automotive OEMs
- Drive the spec-in of Automotive Aftermarket Division (AAD) repair solutions with global AOEMs
- Working on new product introduction projects/teams
- Developing new systems and customer solutions
- Field testing and new product evaluations
- Developing value propositions for the products/systems
- Collecting and analyzing voice of customer data
- Developing and performing hands-on product demonstrations
- Developing competitive awareness and testing competitive products
- Developing technical communications packages
- Organizational skills in preparing for training
- Creating and enhancing presentations (PowerPoint and other computer skills)
- Other duties as assigned
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Vocational/Trade/Technical diploma or Associates degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years or more of experience in a private, public, government or military environment in one or more of the following areas: research lab, application engineering, technical training and/or technical sales
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Technical diploma in an automotive discipline
- 7+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: automotive OEM, automotive tier supplier, and/or automotive aftermarket
- Previous experience in technical service, technical training and/or technical sales
- "Can do/will do" attitude
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation)
- Ability to analyze, problem solve and implement solutions
- Excellent computer skills
- Innovation skills to generate new ideas or alternative solutions
- Ability to lead teams
- Effective formal and hands-on demonstration techniques
Work location:
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at our office in Maplewood, MN.
Travel:
May include up to 20% domestic
