The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a(n) Automotive Application Engineer Structural Adhesives, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Leading the way on application development including responsibilities for ideation, documentation, feasibility analysis, and validation
- Collaborating closely with the product development team to design the next generation of structural adhesives for the Automotive industry
- Guiding multiple teams to ensure the success of application implementation, including marketing, external industry partners, and customers
- Providing application support and training to customers, including in-person visits and e-media development
- Gaining a complete understanding of the application effectiveness by leading field trials and internal testing along with analyzing and presenting findings
- Striving to remain ahead of pending changes to industry standards, regulations, and best practices
Company Vehicle
This position requires driving a company vehicle, which will require pre-employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired for this position
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
- Three (3) years of experience providing technical support to customers in technical sales and/or application engineering role in a private, public, government or military environment
- Current, valid Driver's License.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Engineering or Chemistry from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years of experience providing technical support to customers in technical sales and/or application engineering role in a private, public, government or military environment
- Skills include:
- Strong people skills and ability to influence, collaborate, and work with cross-functional teams
- Ability and willingness to effectively document technical work and present results
- Strong problem solving / troubleshooting skills and willingness to perform hands-on testing
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and accommodate changing circumstances
- Experience in the use of adhesive joining techniques for battery pack and BIW assembly
- Background in adhesive dispensing technologies and associated validation testing

This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN or Livonia, MI.
Travel:
May include up to 50% domestic/international
