Sr Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
The Sr Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, tests, and supports advanced medical device systems, applying standard operating procedures and deep expertise in mechanical engineering best practices, standards, and technologies. This role collaborates cross‑functionally to move products from concept through development and into production, operating with minimal technical supervision while delivering key project milestones on moderately to highly complex programs. The Sr Mechanical Engineer often serves as a technical authority, leading projects or major subsystems and providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
Responsibilities
+ Apply standard operating procedures and mechanical engineering best practices, standards, and technologies to design, develop, and support medical device systems.
+ Lead mechanical design activities for electromechanical products, including concept development, detailed design, prototyping, and design for manufacturability for Class II and Class III medical devices.
+ Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to advance products from early concept through development and into production.
+ Operate with minimal technical supervision to deliver project milestones on moderately to highly complex programs, as directed by the program leadership.
+ Serve as a technical authority in areas of mechanical design and electromechanical systems, providing expert guidance on design decisions and trade‑offs.
+ Plan, organize, and lead technical projects, including defining scope, estimating effort, managing risks, and tracking progress to meet schedule and quality objectives.
+ Communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, present design concepts, review technical solutions, and address feedback.
+ Perform detailed mechanical design using Solid Works, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and engineering drawings with appropriate tolerances and documentation.
+ Support and oversee prototyping, testing, and verification activities to ensure mechanical designs meet functional, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
+ Integrate design for manufacturability and production process considerations into mechanical designs to enable efficient, robust, and scalable manufacturing.
+ Apply fluids, valves, or cryogenic (cryo) engineering knowledge, where relevant, to the design and optimization of mechanical subsystems.
+ Identify, analyze, and solve complex mechanical problems efficiently, using sound engineering judgment and independent decision‑making.
+ Prepare clear, thorough technical documentation, reports, and design records to support development, regulatory, and production needs.
+ Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to junior engineers and technicians, fostering skill development and high‑quality work.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and standards related to mechanical design and medical device development.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
+ Minimum of 6-9 years of relevant experience with a BS degree, or 3-6 years with an MS degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
+ Expert‑level understanding of mechanical design, detailing, prototyping, design for manufacturability, production processes, and testing for Class II and/or Class III medical devices.
+ Proven ability to solve complex mechanical problems efficiently and effectively using sound engineering judgment.
+ Strong proficiency in mechanical design and Solid Works, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
+
Experience with electromechanical products and systems, including integration of mechanical components with electrical and control elements.
+ Demonstrated project planning, organization, and technical leadership capabilities, including leading technical projects and major subsystems.
+ Ability to lead technical projects and communicate effectively with customers and…
