Job Summary

The Project Engineer leads the technical execution of customer and internal projects from early feasibility through validated production at Forj Medical's Vadnais Heights injection-molding site. This role coordinates product, tooling, process, equipment, quality, and documentation activities to deliver safe, compliant, manufacturable solutions on time and within scope while serving as a key technical partner to customers and cross-functional teams.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned engineering and NPI projects from requirements definition and feasibility through tooling, sampling, qualification, launch, and transfer to sustaining operations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, technical work streams, timelines, milestones, risks, actions, budgets, and status updates in partnership with the program or project manager.
  • Translate customer drawings, specifications, user needs, and quality requirements into clear product, process, tooling, equipment, and validation deliverables.
  • Coordinate design-for-manufacturability reviews and recommend changes that improve moldability, quality, capability, cycle time, cost, and long-term process robustness.
  • Partner with Tool Design, Process Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Metrology, and suppliers to develop and execute tooling, equipment, fixture, automation, and manufacturing plans.
  • Plan and support mold trials, engineering builds, process development, capability studies, validation activities, and production-readiness reviews.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and risk-management methods to identify, prioritize, communicate, and resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation such as requirements, specifications, protocols, reports, drawings, bills of materials, routings, work instructions, change orders, and technical summaries.
  • Ensure project work complies with Forj Medical's quality system, document-control practices, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers; communicate project status, decisions, risks, and recommended actions clearly and professionally.
  • Support quotations, capital requests, supplier selection, cost-reduction initiatives, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Provide effective technical handoff, training, and post-launch support to manufacturing and sustaining teams.
  • Perform other duties and support strategic projects as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, Biomedical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • Advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred.
Experience
  • Three or more years of engineering experience in product development, NPI, manufacturing, tooling, or process development preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with injection molding, mold development, process qualification, or high-volume precision manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Experience in medical device, regulated manufacturing, or contract manufacturing preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong project execution, technical documentation, risk-management, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of DFM, GD&T, engineering drawings, polymers, tooling, process capability, and validation principles.
  • Ability to interpret and apply customer, quality-system, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with CAD, statistical-analysis, project-management, ERP/MRP, and Microsoft Office tools as applicable to the role.
  • Strong customer communication, influence, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
