Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience to total four years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Experience with Minnesota school district funding.
* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with minimal supervision and support.
* Knowledge of current issues and challenges impacting public education and also the current developments to address these issues and challenges.
* Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and legal / governmental regulations related to performing this position.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology tools to enhance personal productivity.
* Demonstrated ability to write and/or present reports, documents, presentations, proposals and general correspondence in a clear and concise manner.
* Demonstrated ability to develop long-range plans, establish and successfully achieve goals and make consistently sound, defensible decisions in performing all aspects of this position.
* Working knowledge of applicable and payroll-related tax laws, retirement legislation, TSA regulations, child support rules, leaves and garnishments and other regulations that require compliance by the District in its payroll administration.
* Knowledge skills and abilities to effect consistent accuracy, reliability and confidentiality in all aspects of payroll administration.
Responsibilities:
* Reconciles bank and investment statements. Investigates any missing entries or discrepancies. Prepares correcting journal entries, as necessary. Communicates with banking and investment firm representatives to obtain additional information, as needed
* Reconciles balance sheet accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll liabilities. Collaborates and works with employees to correct any discrepancies
* Prepares journal entries to record building monthly transactions from various district departments (i.e. trips, communications, printing, nutrition amounts, departmental charge backs, etc.).
* Performs various general ledger activities such as setting up new account codes, creating ad hoc reports, researching financial information, entering journal entries, as needed.
* Extracts payments made through the State's SWIFT Program. Codes each payment and prepares a cash receipt entry. Matches deposits slips with back up to verify deposits from other departments are coded properly and ready for cash receipt entry.
* Reports sales tax to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
* Understand the Accounts Payable process and provides back up as needed.
* Works with staff and provides training on UFARS and other key financial information.
* Provides training on financial processes to staff as needed.
* Works with the staff to provide support during the audit.
* Prepares, creates and develops codes following the Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS) standards.
* Creates and submits the Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS) tape to the Minnesota Department of Education.
* Records and prepares fixed asset reporting, including adding newly acquired assets and recording disposition of assets.
* Reviews and verifies credit card statements to assure proper receipts are attached for each charge and that sales tax were not charged. Contacts individuals missing statements and reimbursement of sales tax, as needed.
* Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
* Other related duties as assigned.
