Position Overview
As a key member of the Accounting and Planning team, you will be part of Agri Bank's mission to support the people who feed the world. The Senior Loan Accountant provides support to Agri Bank, Sun Stream, Foundations and Association accounting staff regarding wholesale and retail loan accounting. Support includes monitoring and reconciling general ledger accounts, creating journal entries, resolving issues, and performing general accounting duties.
Responsibilities- Creates and maintains client, commitment and loan record details in the loan accounting system
- Monitors retail and wholesale loan portfolios for accurate rates, balances and transactional activity
- Processes and reconciles daily cash settlements for clients who are off system
- Calculates MCD rate for wholesale loans and updates system as appropriate, adjusting as needed to ensure accurate interest expense calculation
- Monitors internal and external loan accounting communication channels for actionable items and responds accordingly
- Ensures wholesale and retail loan activity is posted within guidelines and researches transactions as needed
- Assists team members with loan accounting questions and research
- Monitors and reconciles assigned accounts on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis
- Identifies, researches, and resolves reconciling items, escalating items to achieve resolution
- Prepares and submits journal entries to correct items discovered in reconciliation duties
- Resolves issues with bank and clients, following up on outstanding issues to ensure timely and accurate resolution
- Processes loan system and general journal entries related to Agri Bank’s loan portfolio
- Prepares and calculates entries for significant and/or complex accounting processes
- Performs and participates in training for team members and processes, as needed
- Prepares or maintains daily/weekly/monthly tasks and proposes timelines required to meet deliverables
- Reviews and coordinates fulfillment of requests from bank departments, auditors and third parties
- Participates in bank and district-wide project teams
- Executes test plans
- Recommends or leads process improvements, acting as SME when appropriate
- Implements improvements and documents new or revised procedures
- Communicates process changes to stakeholders
- Responds to client requests via district self‑service tool, email or phone
- Collaborates closely with credit team and association personnel regarding loan portfolios and asset pools
- Assists clients in resolving accounting issues by completing research and recommending solutions
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- 2 years of public accounting experience or 5 years of related experience
- CPA preferred
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
- Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of accounting including general ledger entries
- Advanced knowledge of loan accounting, cash operations, general ledger practices
- Advanced knowledge of internal controls
- Intermediate knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets
- Intermediate knowledge of GAAP
- Intermediate knowledge of financial reporting standards and processes
- Basic knowledge of FCA reporting regulations and requirements
- Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Advanced proficiency in general ledger, loan accounting and wire systems
- Advanced proficiency in reconciliation systems
- Intermediate proficiency in enterprise performance management (e.g., EPM)
- Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Competitive base salary ranging from $78,000 to $120,000, plus discretionary annual incentive program
