Role

This position is responsible for originating and administering a portfolio of commercial loans with the overall objective of maintaining credit quality, increasing profitability, and producing loan and deposit growth. Attend to the needs of commercial members to meet Blaze’s core purpose of improving lives. Contribute to the team effort by performing other job‑related duties as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attends and establishes networking opportunities in order to grow the CU’s membership base and assets.
  • Calls on prospects seeking opportunities to expand the CU’s membership base and assets.
  • Researches and collects background documentation and reviews personal and business financial statements and tax returns.
  • Analyzes financial information to determine if the request is a good fit for the CU.
  • Structures the loan.
  • Identifies and communicates points of exposure on current loans, as well as possible solutions.
  • Works with Commercial Analyst to analyze financials and prepare the loan presentation if applicable.
  • Presents loan applications for review at loan committee or proper level of approval, as needed/directed.
  • Attends Loan Committee meetings prepared to answer questions on assigned credits.
  • Handles incoming branch referrals (generally above $250,000).
  • Meets with existing borrowers on a regular basis to ensure member’s needs are being met, sales opportunities captured, and loan risk is understood.
  • Performs periodic reviews of credits where more frequent monitoring may be appropriate.
  • Responsible for monitoring clients within assigned portfolio to identify deteriorating credit conditions and compliance with loan agreements.
  • Ensures that renewals are completed on a timely basis to avoid administrative past dues.
  • Ensures that annual reviews are completed in a timely fashion and that loans within the bank’s portfolio are properly risk graded.
Other support
  • Provides training and coaching to branches on business development, lending services and related topics.
  • Provides training and support to branches on commercial deposits in order to grow the CU’s membership base and assets.
  • Provides training, coaching, and mentorship to junior commercial lenders.
  • Provides training at the Admin location as part of the CU’s training program.
  • Handles incoming calls and questions on loan and business related issues.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
Other Duties
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control

Experience/Education/Certifications/Licenses
  • Minimum High School degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years experience in commercial lending
Knowledge of
  • Credit Union consumer and commercial products, services, policies and procedures
  • Financial industry and related products in order to discuss them confidentially with members
  • Commercial loan pipeline
  • SBA and other guaranteed loan programs related to small businesses
  • Microsoft Office with advanced Excel ability
Ability to
  • Analyze financial statement and global cash flows to determine potential solutions with previous experience using software or similar product
  • Underwrite loans using a global cash flow approach
  • Coordinate priorities, meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Use clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Make decisions and resolve problems efficiently to provide service to our members
  • Problem solve, to make recommendations, and to exercise judgment in extending credit
  • Organize multiple tasks and to maintain a courteous demeanor in a busy, high stress work environment
  • Recognize and troubleshoot system problems and inefficiencies
